Finding Love

By Jayde Johanssen

Relationships are complicated things. Anytime human interaction takes place on more than just a basic level, things can get difficult. This is especially true since not everyone in the dating world is looking for the same thing. People have different ideas about relationships, dating, monogamy, and a whole host of other important issues that can have serious repercussions between people. Disagreements between beliefs and wants often surface once people have gone far enough down a certain path to leave one person feeling hurt.

Men are typically accused of causing this kind of heartache, but the truth of the matter is that women are quite able to inflict some pain of their own.

Most people do not walk around advertising the kind of relationship they are looking for. There are certain signs that a person might give off but it is very difficult for someone to piece these together into a complete understanding of what a person wants. Where and how a man meets someone can help them increase the chances that they will find a person with similar desires and interests as them. A man looking for a real, committed relationship should tailor where they look for women a little more.

The blaring music and flowing booze that are found in clubs and bars make them ideal places to meet a hookup, and a completely terrible place to meet someone to start a deeper relationship with. It is difficult to carry out any kind of conversation and get even a basic idea of who a person is, which is not typically a good start to a relationship.

Approaching a woman while she is out and about in her daily routine makes her feel like a man is interested in more than just her appearance. Opening with a comment about what she may be doing, reading, or drinking is a good way to start a conversation without being overwhelming or awkward.

Men should always err on the side of very respectful and polite when approaching a total stranger. Exchanging e-mails is a better bet than phone numbers since it gives both parties a chance to get to know each other a little better before giving one another their personal number.

Though a man may be looking for a serious relationship, he should not necessarily advertise this fact right off the bat. While it might be a nice change of pace for some women, not all women are looking for deep relationships all of the time.

Sending e-mails back and forth gives both parties the chance to get a better feeling about the other person before giving the direct line of communication in the form of a number. Even if a man is looking for a real relationship, it is important that they not lead with this fact. While some women might find it refreshing and endearing, women are just as capable of being freaked out by commitment as men, especially early in a relationship.
