Watch For Signs Of A Bad Relationship

By Alan Bentley

A partner can give us a lot -- the company and attention that we crave and want; let's face it, nobody likes to be alone. Sometimes those things just don't work out and even though you may have a lot of time and effort invested, be on the lookout for the signs of a bad relationship.

Did you know that it takes as many as five positive experiences to negate one negative experience? When you are thinking of sniping at your partner remember this and try and put aside these negative comments. Constant two-way sniping can be one of the early signs of a bad relationship and you should both ensure that you exchange generous and loving words and gestures as often as possible.

Whilst it is great to be in the company of mutual friends, quality time together is highly important and should be exclusive. Your relationship can become well-founded if you allocate time just for him and he does the same for you.

Both parties need to focus on the fact that there must be a balance between individual needs. Not being able to give and take is one of the primary signs of a bad relationship in process. Here, as in many other places, negotiation is key to solving the issue.

Jump on a problem as quickly and calmly as possible and look for a resolution. Never sleep on a bad situation and realize that a buried resentment is a harbinger of things to come and one of the signs of a bad relationship around the corner. You and your guy must find a consensus and find a way to celebrate each other's differences rather than treating them as a cause of friction. Find a way to appreciate idiosyncrasies and boost your long-term potential.

You should always own up and admit to have made a mistake at any point in your life and this goes for relationships as well. If you made a promise and broke it, try and fix it. Intransigence and a lack of flexibility are some of the primary signs of a bad relationship. Do not be tempted to cling to what you believe in at all costs; if you come from a stance of neutrality everything will be a lot easier.

Never be tempted to punish mistakes or bad behavior. This will not help you to repair the situation. You should always be flexible but you must make sure that he does his best to act the same way. Look at your relationship as between an adult and adult and not as if it were between a parent and a child.

When signs of a bad relationships seem overbearing, sit down and analyze the good versus the bad. An honest assessment may well enable you to fix the problem, but in some cases this can not be the case and you should both be prepared to move on to pastures new.
