Understanding Teeth Whiteners and Their Benefits

By Dave Smith

Unfortunately when you go out looking for a teeth whitener it can be quite difficult. However, if you want the best option then it has to be done. If you've been subjected to yellow teeth for years, you probably want to make a change. Granted it might not bother you initially, but when others start talking it can be a major downfall. Having yellow teeth can ruin your chances of a relationship with another, conversations during events, or just your overall self-esteem.

In order to find the best option there are a few things to consider. You must understand how your teeth feel, look, and how they would handle a proper teeth whitening regimen. For instance, if you have sensitive teeth, then you probably want to take the proper precautions. If you're not sure, try biting into an ice cream cone and figure it out. If you do then utilize the gel is out of the question and you should focus on strips or paints.

Suffering from a gag reflex? Every once in awhile, we come across someone who can't stand to put a whitening guard in their mouth. It's quite understandable, and if you have an issue with it then you should look for an alternative method. Again, if you're not sure just stick your finger in the back of your throat. If the gag reflex takes place then strips and paints are your best option.

Probably one of the most important things to understand is what teeth whitening agents do to tooth caps. If you have them and they are discolored, teeth whiteners won't change the color. So it is possible to use a solution and end up with all your teeth looking white except for the teeth that are capped. In this case you're going to have to see your local dentist and have it redone.

While all of these areas are important, obviously your purchase will depend on your budget. There are both expensive and inexpensive ways to make this happen. Get familiar with the costs, because some teeth whiteners can cost more than $100.

In the end there are various ways to get started. The first and most common are choosing whitening toothpaste. You'll find that it's not much different than using regular toothpaste. However, there are several different ingredients that can help you get rid of stains. One thing to notice is that there is not any bleach present, which means this will have to be done on a continuous basis. Plus, it will only work on the surface.

Whitening strips have been around for a very long time, and you will find that they are almost impossible to detect. They are transparent strips that are applied directly to the teeth and you are to leave them on for at least thirty minutes. After a few days you should see results, but you need to make sure that you do this for several months to obtain the best results.

However, at the end of the day there are several ways to get a gleaming smile. It's just important for you to understand each one before going out and making a purchase. A little cautionary measure never hurt anyone, and your smile will thank you for it later.
