By Jane Apple

While the self-advancing advantages of earning a college degree are well known, there are some benefits to earning a degree at a university campus than online colleges and the other way around. The following will go over some benefits for both online colleges and campus-based universities to help people know which is good for them and their personal needs

There are several key benefits for students who will be attending a campus-based university and the following is a quick overview of those benefits.

Upfront Social Interaction: Attending school at a college campus showcases students socially, culturally, and academically in ways they wouldn't get attending an online school. While growing social and cultural thoughts may not be the goal of every learner, they are key ingredients to individual growth and advancement.

Upfront Communication: There are scenarios when it helps to have a fellow student right next to you, or a teacher on hand that a learner can ask a question to and get a answer quickly. Learning at campus-based colleges, universities is a great way to get fast communication as classes are attended by live students and teachers and they interact their information in a group environment with everyone participating at the same moment. Most online colleges, universities don't set hours for logging in, so students are not always on at the same time and asking a question to the professor may not be answered quickly, but rather by the next class.

Hands-on Learning: Being able to look at tasks in real-time as well as study notes, text, and other info that is helpful in finishing projects is a great way to get work completed and understand it. For those that study online, there isn't any hands-on studying and in fact, online learners have to pick up their books and learn it on their own without any direct assistance or understanding from the teacher. This may not be so bad in most cases, but trying to do an advanced numbers class without any hands-on help and you'll be hoping you had some.

Structured Learning: There are set times to go to school, days that assignments is turned in, and how long to spend on each one. This can be good for those that need to have structure in their studying because most online universities don't require set hours for logging in, when work is completed, or even what days of the week to go to class.

The following are some key pros for students who earn their colleges degrees online. As most will see some of the items are key pros to campus-based are also benefits to online schools, but the difference is the person attending. The pros are both good and bad for people and the best thing is to find the benefits that fits a person's need better and earn a degree from that method.

Information Overload: Unlike campus-based schools, online schools provide much more information to the students upfront. The reason is that teachers post their lectures upfront rather than presenting it to the class like in campus-based schools. This means that the students don't have to spend time taking notes, but rather get the lecture and start learning. In addition, most online schools provide an environment that allows students to interact with other students on their work so not only does a student get to see their work, but also assignments from other students and they get to discuss the work to get a better understanding of it. This is by far one of the best reasons to go to an online school as a student gets a lot more information provided than with campus-based schools were most of the time in class is spent taking notes and listening to the teacher go over the lecture.

Easy Scheduling: For the very reason that many students like to have structure in their learning environment, many students do not. Online schools gives people the freedom and flexibility to make their own schedule as most don't require a set time to log in and do work. This is great for working adults, parents, and others that can't seem to be able to make a campus-based college's schedule for classes. Most of the time classes start in the morning, and those fill up fast, but for people that need to work during the day, this option is out of the question. The only way to be able to get the classes done reasonably is do it online or go to night school. Going online means that a person is free to sign in and do work when it is most convenient for them, which makes learning more relaxed and the student ready to learn.

Broader Social Space: Unlike campus-based schools, online schools can be attended by anyone from any where. No longer are the social interactions limited to a certain region or demographic. Online colleges can have people in one classroom that are in different states or even different countries, which can make the interaction more broad and provide many new insights that people from the same region or demographic would have in common. Although there is no instant communication, being able to communicate with people on a broader scale can actually increase a person's knowledge and help them learn more by opening them up to new experiences and networking.

Whether a person is learning online or at a campus, earning a college degree helps achieve advance goals that we set for ourselves and makes getting ahead a lot easier. It's never too late to start and many people can benefit for higher learning.
