The Drilling Department

The derrick man is responsible in the general maintenance of all the pumps and other equipment used at the pump room; hence, they are often seen climbing the drilling tower, racking the drill pipe and other physically demanding tasks. The pump man works in the pump room and acts as the assistant of the derrick man. The roughnecks work on the rig floor. Other positions require professional backgrounds as in installation managers, engineers, chief engineers, company man or woman and company representatives.

Very Different From All Other Jobs

Large diesel generators are the only source of power when you are out in the middle of the ocean and mechanics keep the generators maintained on a regular schedule and must know how to repair the engine when there is a need. This type of oil work relies on skill and knowledge.

For someone with relevant and higher education, like engineers, they can earn an average of $80,000 a year. The oil work industry is great in providing job opportunities for everyone. So, if you have specific trade skills in mechanics or electric's, you won't have a problem earning up to $65,000 annually. All oil rig jobs are good and honest that pays well and do not require you to wear the right tie, suit or shoes every day.
