to the final handling of the deceased's corpse.

The essential tasks of a funeral director include shifting the deceased to a mortuary, making the body ready for the funeral ceremony, making preparations for the ceremonies where friends and family will honour and pay their last respects to the departed, and performing the ultimate procedures on the body.

These duties encompass a wide variety of jobs, which include arrangement of a vehicle for transporting the body, deciding the place and timings for the funeral ceremony and also publishing obituaries in the electronic media and in the newspapers. In addition, the funeral directors also have to ensure that the flowers and decorations are in place. Besides this, they have to prepare the body for the service by washing and anointing it and arrange transportation for the family and friends gathering for the ceremony.

A funeral director has a lot of responsibilities besides the above mentioned ones, including performing the paperwork formalities as required. He helps the relatives in obtaining a death certificate. He is also entrusted with other tasks like helping the family with obtaining the insurance money and to take benefit of seniors' burial scheme. He can also arrange for the transfer of any annuities or pensions that the family is entitled to receive, and offers tips to the family on management of funeral expenses.

In addition, a funeral director has to liaise with a number of people so that he can do his jobs in a systematic way. He has to deal with not just the casket makers and florists but also physicians and the clergy.

Finally, it is important for funeral directors to work beyond their normal schedule and offer comfort and solace to the suffering family of the deceased, so that they can tide over their sorrow. Some funeral directors neglect this task, but it is an important part of their service no doubt.
