Benefits Of NLP Rewind Technique

By Trevor Johnson

Psychological therapies are becoming common these days. With the rapid advancement of this field, many theories about therapies have been published but most of them have not gained popularity yet. One such area called the Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) is a system of therapy which helps people to overcome their mental and emotional phobias by self-awareness. The rewind technique associated with NLP is used for treating post-traumatic stress disorder and phobias.

This technique helps people to overcome the phobias that haunt them throughout their lives. Whether it is the fear of heights, fear of water, fear of animals, this technique though very uncommon promises to help people overcome their phobias through a unique process.

It is called so because a person replays the incidents that triggered the phobia and then is asked to visually view him or herself during that phobia. This lets a patient become a spectator to their trauma and let them relive the experience in a totally different situation and away from the stress he or she was feeling at that time. It helps lessen or even completely eradicating the post-traumatic stress or phobia.

It helps the patient is the sense that he doesn't have to actually use words to tell the psychologist that embarrassing or traumatic incidents again and again. Secondly, the patient can actually detach himself from the anxiety he feels at the time when his phobia triggers.

A patient can view the incident as an outsider and by rewinding and viewing it many times, he can completely let go of that phobia. Whether it is phobia or fear of heights, water, animals, dark etc. This therapy can be used for any kind of traumas and phobias.

A good psychologist using the NLP rewind technique would be the one that has practically treated patients through it. Also, a good psychologist would be able to cure the patient of the phobia in just one sittings or at the very least lessen it to the point where it would not interfere with the everyday life of the patient.
