Your brain can understand from 10,000 to 50,000 bits of data per minute; one bit equates to one word. The average HS grad, when tested, reads about 250 words per minute. The college student reads at about 300 words per minute. We receive information through our five physical senses, (touching, tasting, hearing, smelling, and seeing) and by those we make decisions. Are You Keeping In Touch With Your Clients?

To some salespeople, follow-up means a call or two after the sale has been closed. It may come as a shock, but most don't even do that much! Consider this: if salespeople stop at one post sale follow-up call, they are throwing away future business. Successful sales professionals and experts consistently tell us that not keeping in touch with your clients after the sale can have serious negative consequences.

Let's also not forget the 80/20 rule...where you get 80% of your business from 20% of your client base. That rule also applies in generating referrals.

Let's look at the real estate industry for a minute. Over 80% of real estate agents clients do not remember the name of the agent that represented them in a buying or selling transaction. By being proactive in periodic follow up would more than cut that percentage in half. Clients usually won't bother you with minor problems, but them knowing you are there for them if they need you is powerful. Continually putting your name in front of them has very positive results and will show in your sales figures.

In any sales industry, no matter how small or large, following up after the sale is an absolute must. If one client knows 3 people, who know 3 people and so on, just imagine how important touching base with your sphere of influence could result in huge future profits. Take a step back and count the number of sales people who followed up with you after you purchased their product or service.

With advanced technology, there is no excuse for you NOT to reach out and touch your past clients. Some of the resources available for you to follow up with your clients are written thank you cards, birthday or anniversary cards, or periodic emails.

With today's innovative ideas we can easily try to escape the phone call approach. This is probably more powerful than any other follow up technique and should not be forgotten. If it is available to you, then I would highly recommend incorporating this method in your follow up procedures. A few minutes of conversation will reconnect the rapport with your client.

Sales people seem to not realize how powerful follow up can be. Repeat business is what we all strive for and you will get positive results by including follow up in your daily or weekly agenda.

Add this "follow up with my sphere of influence" to your daily or weekly calendar. By doing so, you will see your sales increase significantly if not skyrocket to the top.

On Flirting With Girls Using Ordinary Questions

I've heard many times that you're not supposed to ask the "typical questions" when flirting, and that it can make you seem boring to the girl.

This is wrong in my view. It's actually probably more weird to a girl if you don't ever get around to asking about mundane aspects of her life.

What are the "ordinary" questions we're talking about?

What's your occupation?

Are you in school?

How old are your children?

How long have you lived here?

Of course you don't want to ask question after question like this, or she'll feel like she's on a job interview. But there's a right way to go about asking these questions and still flirt well.

This is the magic formula:

TYPICAL QUESTION FLIRTING FORMULA: after she responds to your "typical question", be ready to be PLAYFUL with her answer.

I will often, very early in the conversation, ask a woman what she does for a living, or, ifshe's in school, I'll ask her what she's studying.

But after I get a response from her, I get playful with her response.

Like this:

If she says she walks dogs for a living, I'll say "Shoot, I was going to bring my dog to the coffee shop today, but decided not to. You would have totally walked my dog all over the coffee shop, right?"

She laughs. She feels like you value her for something other than her looks. And you frame the interaction as one of her being ready to SERVE you in some way.

Don't worry about every guy using this line after reading this article either. Women never get tired of this kind of playful role-playing.

Take this approach for a spin. Use it on women you're interested in, and even one's you're not interested in. It doesn't hurt to get the practice in, and put a smile on someone's face.

Imagine making a little old lady's day with this line: "Goodness gracious, I just know that, if you were my Grandma, you'd bake me cookies all the time, even when my mother said not to. Wouldn't you?" They all love it!

Tips on Prospecting To Generate New Leads

Ever notice how difficult it is to start a project? Then once you start it, it easily becomes a creature of habit. Take for example an exercise program. We keep putting it off but once we start, we ask ourselves, "why didn't do this earlier?" We seem to have the same mindset with proactive prospecting. We continue to find excuses not to prospect even though we know how productive and the positive results that will come from it. So why is it that we will make every excuse in the world not to do it?

We need to have a starting point. Begin by blocking out one or two hours per day to prospect. Yes, we have put it off long enough. Start by using your sphere of influence to prospect. Prospecting, like anything will require commitment and discipline. This time is yours and you are important. Once you start you will feel more important and this will be a positive projection of your attitude when you talk with your sphere of influence.

Know ahead of time exactly what you are going to say or discuss when you call someone. It is good to have a specific message. Most people are very interested in market conditions for example. Maybe they have misunderstood something in the news or need further explaining. This is where you can become the "expert", and provide them with a more accurate image of the situation.

Accurately define your target market before you begin. Determine how many calls you will make in that hour or two. Some sale people will call until they get an appointment or make the sale. Or you could decide to make 20 calls in that allotted time. Whatever you feel comfortable with and reasonable within the time allocated.

Before you start prospecting, gather a list of names so you don't spend valuable time you are using for prospecting. Get an idea of how many customers you plan to call in your allotted hour or two and have at least a one month supply of names.

Remember you have set aside some time for prospecting. Work in an area without interruption. Don't answer calls or schedule meetings during this time. As you start going through your calls, you will find each call will become easier and easier. Before you know it, you will feel like a pro. You will learn as you go and practice makes perfection.

Experience and surveys have shown that the best times to contact customers is 8 AM to 9 AM, between Noon and 1 PM and 5 PM to 6:30 PM. If you are missing a customer between certain hours, then it's best to make note of that and call them at a different time. Chances are if you continue to call at the same time and the customer is not available, they will continue to be unavailable during that time block.

Don't stop. Persistence is one of the key virtues in selling success. Most sales/valuable contacts are made after the fifth call, and most sales people quit after the first.

Getting Ready For A Fabulous First Impression

Study Up On Your Employer And Interviewer. One of the most irritating things as an employer is having someone come into my office who does not know my background or what is offered in my office. Do your homework before any interview. This is important for two reasons. First, you want to know if the business is a good fit for you. Second, you want to know as much about the person and place where you are interviewing as they know about you. The internet is a great source of information. Visit the company's web site. If you know the name of the person who is interviewing you, search for them. Determine if they have written any books, articles, or book chapters which can give an insight into their interests. Everyone likes to talk about themselves. If you can get lucky and get an insight into the personal life of your interviewer, talking about their interests can be a great way to leave a positive impression. At a minimum, at least know the basics about the company you are asking for a job from.

Don't Pad Your Resume. If a prospective employer finds that you have padded your resume with experience or training which you do not have, that will lead to an immediate filing in the big round filing cabinet. By the same token, be sure to include all of your strengths in your resume. It is your time to convince your employer that you are the one to choose. It should also be about one page in length unless you have some outstanding information to pass along. The second and third pages are not likely to ever be seen.

Send A Thank You Note. Always send a personalized thank you note after an interview. Be sure to insert information from the interview into the note to show that it is not a form letter. Also reemphasize why you want the position and what would make you the best candidate. Don't include your entire resume, they already have that, simply include a brief sentence or two. By sending a thank you note, you not only show appreciation for the time of the interviewer as well as your attention to detail but your name and credentials get back in front of them for a second time. As an interviewer I can tell you - not many people send thank you notes.

Moderation is always crucial. When considering dress, perfume, cologne, makeup, or jewelry, be sure to think subtle. In most cases, I would argue that perfume and cologne are not warranted at all. Some people are allergic to certain scents and coming in with a cologne that your interviewer is allergic to can be extremely detrimental.

Remember what your mother always said. Mothers are excellent at giving advise while growing up. Listen to them. Sit up straight, trim your hair, cut your nails. You only have one chance to make a first impression. In this case, that first impression may land you a job that lasts for a lifetime - and the initial decision can be made in less than a second.

This word is used constantly to describe some types of works of art, so it would seem unfair to attach it as a label of being a cult because it is being used by an organization such as the Freemasons. It is being perceived by anti Freemasons as referring to witchcraft.

Then the next argument raised is why they perform rituals and what are they and for what purpose? The general response from those who are members give the explanation that these rituals are a way of telling a story. They are done to get a meaning across such as love and goodness overpowering evil for example. These rituals play a vital role in the Freemasonry and specific ones are only carried out by those that have attained specific degrees. Degrees in the Freemasonry are like promotion up the ranks.

Then there comes the concerns that they are a highly secretive organization. The Freemasons promote that their records are open to the public. They do however admit that their rituals are a secret meant only for the members.

So when you look at the words craft, rituals and secrecy all on their own accord they really are innocent sounding words and one would question as to why they would be linked to the thought of a cult. It?s when you put all these words together as a whole entity that disturbs people because this link is often the foundation for many cults.

Another argument raised by pro Freemasons is the good they do in their community, but in many cases even, that seems somewhat secret. The ideals that they speak of and what they say their fraternity is based on would make them a quite noble organization if they are to be taken at their word.

Much of the anti Freemason arguments could quite easily be put to rest by removing some of the secrecy shrouding the Freemasonry. This could be done by way of opening up the ritual to a public audience. It would stand to reason that if these rituals were for the betterment of all humanity, then shouldn?t the story they say it portrays be shared with all. If humanity were, the key issue one would think they would want to spread the word. Why should the high morals that the Freemasons stand on be restricted to their organization only.

The Secret To Enjoying Your Climb Up The Corporate Ladder

It is extremely challenging in corporate America to climb to the top of the ladder of success. Really, how many people can fit on that top rung?? A frighteningly small number of positions that are wanted by a frighteningly large group of people. Clearly the higher one moves up the ladder, the more difficult it gets. "Stretch" goals for the next month/quarter/year! The fortunate few might get a promotion, though often that means even more pressure to achieve.

"Once I get that bump in salary, THEN I can spend more time with family and friends"

Self Awareness Can Be Yours When You Learn to Meditate

A meditation teacher will tell you, "Meditation is inner astronomy. You discover the stars, the moon and the sun are all inside you." The allure of learning to meditate is the belief that Eastern philosophy and practice holds the key to understanding oneself. One may go through his or her whole life, always feeling that there is something more to life than the 40-hour work week or following a set of life stages that has been predetermined by societal norms. Meditation brings a sense of fullness, completion and tranquility to those who practice, which is a wonderful coping mechanism in today's high-stress environment.

The first step in learning to meditate is understanding the concept. The Western notion of meditation is "to focus one's thoughts or ponder over." However, the Eastern idea of spiritual meditation is "the all and the everything," says writer George Gurdjieff. Instead, meditation becomes the absence of thought, judgment and distraction -- but rather, the absorption of a sense of serenity and love. Some Westerners hesitate to get involved with meditation because these concepts seem too lofty, but once the mental and physical benefits of meditating are realized, it's hard to resist.

When students are learning how to meditate, position is emphasized because sitting upright allows energy to flow straight down the spine and back up again. Participants are able to take deeper breaths and remain mentally alert, even as the body moves into a deeper state of relaxation. There are two cushions the meditation group may use: the zafu and the zabuton. The zafu is a thick, pillbox-shaped cushion that is usually round. A zabuton is flatter, more like a dinner table seat cushion. There are also gomdens (taller square cushions), kneeling benches and yoga mats used in meditative practices.

One obstacle many people face when learning to meditate is drowsiness. Many new meditators feel they will be most comfortable lying in a darkened room. However, once heart rate and circulation decreases while meditating, sleep chemicals like melatonin and dopamine will also be released. The end result will be a state of sleep-hypnosis and not true meditation. Meditation instruction trains your body to be as if sleeping but your mind to be fully aware. Your teacher will probably instruct you to sit on a floor cushion with your legs crossed and your eyes open, cast slightly downward.

When you're first learning to meditate, you may want to start working 15 minute sessions in the mornings and nights. Over time, you will want to reach about 40 minutes per day to achieve the maximum benefits. As you learn more, try to bring some of the techniques you've learned in your meditation classes over into daily life. Practice mindfulness in everything that you do. Choose settings and locations that make you feel more positive. Once you begin to understand how meditation works, you will notice positive changes taking place in your life.

Ian Colquhoun Lost His Legs In A Mind-Numbing Attack Yet He Says It Was Providence"

Losing a finger or toe is not a very nice experience, but to lose both legs and wake up in a hospital bed, emerging from a seven-week coma and lucky to be alive is devastation! This is what happened to 29 year old Ian Colquhoun, now a very talented writer and historian who says after being horrifically injured in a brutal, unprovoked and gruesome attack, "Losing my legs is the best thing to have happened to me."

After surviving a mind-numbing attack that saw his body suffer 65 percent burns, somehow Ian Colquhoun fought on. Given the last rites three times, Ian had thousands of people praying for his life all over the world ... all thanks to the internet.

Ian says, "The night I lost my legs started out as any other. I was living in Dundalk, in the Irish Republic. I'd moved there for a new career as a warehouseman. I met a girl there and after ten days of going out with her we went to a party not far from the house I shared with work colleagues. At the party I had a few drinks and fell asleep on the settee. All I remember was waking up and seeing some strange men looting the room. I didn't have time to take in how many of them were there. Within seconds, one of them swung a pick-axe handle at me. I must have passed out because my last memory is of seeing bright lights - then nothing! Seven weeks later I awoke from a coma."

The road to recovery has been a long personal battle where Ian even considered suicide a number of times. Having little prospect of working in a 'normal' 9-5 job made Ian consider other occupations. He had an interest in military history since a child and decided to embark on a writing career. Although he had no experience of writing, he penned two books which were accepted for publication. Furthering his interests even more, Ian took up an opportunity to become a movie stuntman. He would later find that his loss of limbs would actually be an advantage to some of the roles he was offered to play. Sadly the Irish authorities did not deem his circumstances strong enough to warrant a compensation payout, and no one has been brought to justice for the attack.

The former warehouseman has turned his life around since his ten month stay in hospital following the incident in Eire. Prior to being fitted with made to measure prosthetic limbs he spent two-and-a-half years in a wheelchair.

Some seven years later, Ian saw his autobiography, "Burnt", about his experiences published, and in another success he was invited on a UK TV book review show where his book was feted as "well written" by The Richards & Judy Show's Richard Madeley. Continuing in his good fortune, Ian starred as an injured sailor in the big screen film based on the real life sinking of the US Navy warship USS Indianapolis. The film covered how the ship's 900 sailors were swimming for their lives in shark infested waters in Guam during the Second World War.

Ian Colquhoun says, "I thought what they said about my legs being off was a stunt! I pulled back the sheets of my hospital bed and almost passed out with shock. I'll never forget the horrific moment I saw my legs had been amputated. As a young man who loved playing football, going out to parties and had a new girlfriend, I was utterly devastated. That day I didn't know if I wanted to carry on living; I couldn't see a future. Yet now, years on from that terrible day, incredibly my life is better than ever. Losing my legs did turn the whole lot upside down, but now I see it as the best thing to happen to me and made me into a better person."

Ian wrote his autobiography "Burnt" in the hope that it will inspire those that have undergone amputations. He hopes it shows those who are devastated by such a loss that their life has not come to an abrupt ending because of this. If Ian can become a stuntman without legs to stand on then there is hope for anyone who has endured such a calamity.

Devising the Best Weight Lifting Routine

I've been lifting weights since high school, and that's been well over a decade now. I love the clarity of mind that a good gym session gives me, and feeling stronger definitely contributes to my overall energy levels and well being. It never hurts to be a little stronger too, as I'm sure that's done some good things for my confidence levels, even if I don't realize it.

When I lift weights, I usually follow a pretty consistent workout routine. You might do the same if you use a gym. Like many, I wondered for a long time whether my workouts should target one muscle or two muscles each time I go.

For a long time, I would work out two muscles at once, and then I decided to mix things up by focusing on one muscle per day.

When I was doing two muscles per weight lifting session, I would typically have a three day rotation before starting all over again.

The advantages of this are obvious. You'll end up working your muscles more, and it'll take less workouts per week to achieve the same workload for each muscle.

On the other hand, it was taking me at least 90 minutes per workout and sometimes I didn't have time for this. Others also believe that hitting each muscle twice in a week is overdoing it.

Recently, I decided to change things up by switching to a six day rotation. I just work on one muscle group each visit to the gym, which allows me to do some more sets and get a better workout in.

What it all comes down to in the end is how this all impacts the body. There's good and bad to this approach. The good is that you can really get away with it, as long as you make sure you're getting to the gym more than every other day. The bad is that if you fall behind, your muscles may suffer for it.

How Are You Dealing with the New Normal?

We live in a constant state of change. Many people are calling it The New Normal because it's now become normal for things to no longer be normal.

Some changes are significant and some aren't. Some changes are obvious and some are inconspicuous-at least at first. Whether it's in our business and career or in our family and home, we need to understand and anticipate-as best we can-what change will mean for us.

There are two simple questions that can help us navigate these waters.

1. What's different from what used to be?

2. What's still the same?

We have a natural tendency to think things are still the way they were. And they usually aren't.

It's easy to get blindsided by something that changed politically, environmentally, socially and culturally. We might have known about the change, but we might not have thought it through to see what the impact would be on us, our business, our family, our finances and our health.

Take a few moments when you can think quietly and answer the two questions above. Dig deep. Think globally as well as locally.

This is not a time to judge what's changed or not changed. It's simply a time to notice and record what you notice.

When you've done this, ask yourself how each thing that's changed has affected you and the various aspects of your life-all the things you care about. How does it affect you? DOES it affect you? How MIGHT it affect you? If the things that have remained the same continue to remain the same, will they be helpful or not? I believe that the greatest lever for change is awareness.

My best sense is that the masses of people don't practice this. And they end up surprised, bewildered and angry.

But as you enter into this practice and do it intentionally over a period of time, you'll find yourself automatically thinking about change and events and how they will likely affect your world.

You will make more and finer distinctions. You will become more aware, wiser, more resourceful-and better able to cope with and exploit change. And that will be different.

How To Do Hypnosis - the Easy Way

Ask the person to close their eyes and take long deep breaths. They need to focus on drawing their breath in slowly and exhaling slowly and not necessarily holding their breath in between. Speak to them in a gentle, mild tone of voice but make sure you are speaking loud enough for them to hear everything that you say.

Make sure to use a calm, soothing tone of voice while attempting to put your subject under hypnosis. Ask them to free their mind of everything that is going on in their life. Tell them to cast aside any fears or worries that they may have at that point in their lives. You can go about trying the next step of hypnosis in many ways, my favorite is to use the visual of a chain.

Tell your subject to imagine a long, heavy length of chain, as large as their body. Beginning with their toes and slowly working their way up there body, have them imagine that they are becoming that chain. Have them imagine themselves sinking through the floor and becoming heavy and relaxed.

Once they have worked up to the top of their head, you have them under complete relaxation and you can begin to talk to them about whatever the purpose of the hypnosis is. When you're learning how to do hypnosis, make sure you have a subject who is in a good frame of mind when you begin.

Repeat these steps as often as you can bear, however the next day you will more likely have sore muscles and a burning sensation at the same time.

Drink much water. Do not underestimate the advantages of keeping your body well hydrated during the day. Water is needed for many reactions in the body; especially ones that help build muscle.

Continue learning as much as you can. There are many new ways, techniques and strategies to try in developing your physique. try different things see what works for you and what doesn't and take the best.
